Season Notes
- At the beginning of the off-season, Kobe Bryant triggered a crisis at the Los Angeles Lakers by telling the media that he wanted to leave the Lakers and complaining about the management of the Lakers and teammate Andrew Bynum .
- The NBA All-Star Game was played at the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans on February 17, 2008. The Eastern Conference won with 134: 128. For MVP was LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers selected, who contributed 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
- The New Orleans Hornets played completely in their homeland again after playing their home games in New Orleans and Oklahoma City in the previous two years due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina .
- After 12 seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves , Kevin Garnett was transferred to the Boston Celtics .
- The number one - draft pick Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers fell the whole season from a knee operation.
- In the game of the New Orleans Hornets against the Los Angeles Lakers on November 6 , Chris Paul and Peja Stojaković each set Hornets club records. Paul made 21 assists and Stojakovic hit 10 three-point throws (out of 13 attempts).
- On November 18 , Avery Johnson led the Mavericks to his 150th win in their 191st game as coach. Johnson surpassed Phil Jackson , who needed 203 games for his 150th win.
- On December 23 , in the 95:90 win of the Los Angeles Lakers against the New York Knicks , Kobe Bryant scored his 20,000 point. At 29 years and 122 days, he is the youngest player to hit the mark. At that time he was 12 days younger than the previous record holder Wilt Chamberlain .
- Jason Kidd of the New Jersey Nets scored a triple-double for the first time in his career in three consecutive games in early January . This was last achieved by Grant Hill in April 1997.
- One of the bigger disappointments of the season was the Miami Heat . The reigning NBA champions from 2005/06 suffered a 15-game series of defeats ( December 25 to January 24 ). This culminated in the surprising move from star center Shaquille O'Neal to the Phoenix Suns . In exchange, Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks came to Miami. At the end of the regular season Miami was beaten by the last of the table with just 15 wins.
- On February 1, 2008 , Pau Gasol was transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers by the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kwame Brown , Javaris Crittenton and Aaron McKie. In this trade, the Grizzlies also received the transfer rights over Marc Gasol and the NBA first-round draft picks of 2008 and 2010 from the Lakers.
- On 16th February 2008 was Mike Bibby of the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Anthony Johnson , Tyronn Lue , Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright to the Atlanta Hawks transferred. In addition, the Kings received a second-round draft pick for 2008.
