Shane Courtney Battier (born September 9, 1978 in Birmingham , Michigan ) is a retired American basketball player. He played for the Memphis Grizzlies , Houston Rockets and Miami Heat in the NBA over his 13-year career . Battier won the NBA championship with the Heat in 2012 and 2013.
biography
Battier was born and raised in Birmingham, Michigan, United States. He attended Derby Middle School and then Detroit Country Day School , where he stood out for his basketball talent and was named Michigan's “Mr. Basketball ”was honored.
Battier then attended Duke University in Durham , North Carolina , where he played under Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski . He led the Blue Devils to the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship tournament in 1999 and 2001 . In 1999, the lost Blue Devils against the Huskies of the University of Connecticut in the final, two years later they won the national NCAA championship, after the Wildcats of the University of Arizona had defeated.
NBA
Battier was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies as the 6th pick of the 2001 NBA Draft . However, the team moved to Memphis that same year. For his achievements in his first year as a professional, Battier was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2002 . His first year was also his best statistically with 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
Battier was an agile player who could act in both the low post and the three-point line . Because of his size and speed he was able to defend three positions ( shooting guard , small forward and power forward ).
After five years in Memphis, with which he was eliminated between 2004 and 2006 each time in the first play-off round, he was on June 28, 2006 Battier was handed over to Stromile Swift and the draft rights to Rudy Gay to the Houston Rockets .
Battier returned to the Grizzlies on February 24, 2011 in exchange for Hasheem Thabeet and a first-round draft pick. There he did not sign a new contract for the 2011/12 season and moved to the Miami Heat , with whom he was able to win the NBA title straight away in 2012. In 2013 the Heat managed to defend their title. After losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA final in 2014 , Battier announced the end of his career.
