Rodney Norvell Stuckey (born April 21, 1986 in Kent , Washington ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2007 to 2017 . For most of his career he played for the Detroit Pistons , of which he was drafted in 2007 . Stuckey was used as a combo guard in both the point guard and the shooting guard position.
Career
college
Rodney Stuckey played for Eastern Washington University . As a sophomore , he achieved an average of 24.6 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. Against Portland State he scored his season best with 36 points. This season he had a total of nine 30-point games and three 10- assist games . He booked the most steals in his career against Idaho with 7 steals. At that time he was the fourth best scorer in his country.
In just two seasons he scored 1,438 points, hit 98 three-point throws, collected 283 assists and recorded 145 steals.
Stuckey's red Eastern Washington University Jersey number 3 has been hanging under the ceiling of the hall since January 11, 2009 and has not been awarded since then.
NBA
On June 28, 2007 Rodney Stuckey was elected with the 15th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons . In the Summer League he was able to convince quickly thanks to 32.1 points, 9.1 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game, but he broke his left hand before the start of the regular season. Because of this injury he had to sit out for eight weeks and made his NBA debut on December 21, 2007. He was able to shine in the NBA playoffs in 2008 , where he perfectly compensated for the injury-related loss of Chauncey Billups in the 2nd round . But he also had very good games against the Boston Celtics , for example in Game 2, in which he scored 13 points in 17 minutes, or in the subsequent game, in which he managed 17 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and a block .
On December 23, 2008, Stuckey achieved his career record in points when he hung up 40 points in his Pistons win against the Chicago Bulls . He also posted career highs in attempted and hit throws. About ten days later, Stuckey scored 38 points against the Sacramento Kings and was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference shortly thereafter . This week he had an average of 27 points, 6 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
Stuckey played in the Rookie Challenge 2009 for the Sophomores , i.e. the best players of the penultimate draft year, as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend .
On March 5, 2010, during a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers , Rodney Stuckey time-out collapsed in the arms of a Detroit Pistons coach and was hospitalized. After a few games rest he was able to continue his career. Rodney Stuckey's career best of 12 assists was achieved on December 11, 2010 against the Toronto Raptors . He finished the 2010-11 season with 16.6 points per game, which was the best points average of his career.
Over the next few years, Stuckey's performance stagnated. Still, he remained an important part of the Pistons rotation, bringing the Pistons to 13.4 points and 3.9 assists per game in seven years.
In the summer of 2014, Stuckey signed a contract with the Indiana Pacers . His contract with the Pacers was terminated in March 2017 due to injury.
