The Eastern Washington University (also EMU or Eastern is called) is a state university in Cheney in the US state of Washington . It has another branch in Spokane and is currently attended by 12,130 students. The sports department teams compete in the Big Sky Conference .

General

The university was founded in 1882 by Benjamin Pierce Cheney . However, the institution only became a university after the end of the Second World War . In 1977 what was then Eastern Washington State College was given its current name by the government of Washington State . Eight years later, the university opened a faculty in Spokane in cooperation with Washington State University , which continues to this day. There are also faculties for the departments Arts and Letters , Business and Public Administration , Science, Health and Engineering , and Social & Behavioral Sciences and Social Work . There are other branch offices not only in Spokane, but also in Bellevue , Everett , Kent , Seattle , Shoreline , Tacoma , Vancouver and Yakima .

The EMU sports teams are called Eastern Washington Eagles . The teams belong to the Big Sky Conference and compete in the NCAA Division I competitions . The best known teams nationwide are the football team, which plays its games at Roos Field and the basketball team, which plays its games in Reese Court . The Seattle Seahawks also carried out their pre-season preparation from 1997 to 2006 at Roos Field . The Eagles' biggest rivals are the Montana Grizzlies from the University of Montana and the Portland State Vikings from Portland State University .
