Todd McFarlane (born March 16, 1961 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian - American comic artist.

history

McFarlane grew up in California and actually wanted to be a professional baseball player . When he could no longer play because of injury, he began Comics to draw. After graduating from college in graphics / design at Eastern Washington University, he worked primarily for comic book publishers Marvel and DC . In 1985 he married and moved back to Canada. Initially, he was mainly engaged in the series The Incredible Hulk , Daredevil and GI Joe: A Real American Hero at Marvel. In the late 1980s he created several editions of the DC Comics Batman and the Marvel series Wolverine . Due to the huge success that McFarlane had as a co-artist on the comic series The Amazing Spider-Man , he got his own Spider-Man magazine series. The first issue appeared in September 1990 and became the best-selling comic book of all time. McFarlane recorded the issues of this series up to issue sixteen. It was he who first introduced the readers to Venom , the opponent of Spider-Man who can also be seen in the movie Spider-Man 3 . At the height of his success with Marvel, he resigned. In 1991, after giving birth to his daughter, McFarlane stopped drawing comics and moved to Portland , Oregon . In 1992 McFarlane was one of the co-founders of the comic publisher Image Comics . In particular, he published the Spawn series under the Image Label . This has been one of the best-selling comic books in the USA since the first issue. Todd McFarlane currently resides in Phoenix , Arizona with his family .

Originally to market the character Spawn , he founded the marketing and merchandising company Todd Toys , which was later renamed McFarlane Toys . He drew the album covers for Follow the Leader by Korn and Ten Thousand Fists by Disturbed .

He also created the world of the video game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning with Ken Rolston, RA Salvatore and Grant Kirkhope . He also had a small appearance in Mass Effect 3 , because he designed the Reckoner Knight armor. He also designed a kit for Assassin's Creed Unity.
