Kent is a city in the western US state of Washington . With around 126,000 inhabitants ( estimate by the United States Census Bureau 2015 ) , it is the fourth largest city in King County after Seattle , Bellevue and Federal Way and belongs to the Seattle metropolitan area .

history

Kent became a parish on May 28, 1890 with a population of 793 . Originally Kent was called Titusville . A sign still reminds of this name today. In the 1960s and 1970s, Kent was mainly influenced by agriculture , which earned it the nickname Lettuce Capital of the World (German: World Capital of Salad ).

In the urban area running Interstate 5 and through the adjacent Tukwila of Interstate 405 . Lake Meridian is located in the city . The neighboring towns are Tukwila, Renton , Covington , Auburn , Federal Way , Des Moines and SeaTac .
