Milton is a city ( City ) in King County and Pierce County in the US state of Washington . As of the 2010 United States Census , Milton had 6,968 residents. Milton is adjacent to the larger and newer town of Edgewood .

As of the 2010 census , Milton had 6,968 residents, 2,901 households and 1,834 families. There were 3,081 housing units.
The population was 82.9% white , 3.1% African American , 1.2% Indian , 5.1% Asian , 0.8% Pacific islander , 1.7% from other "races" and 5.2% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 5.4% of the population.
Of the 2901 households, 33.1% had children under the age of 18, 44.5% were run by married couples living together , 13.5% by single mothers and 5.2% by single fathers; 36.8% were non-families. 28.3% of the households were singles and 10.3% were single persons over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.4 and the average family size was 2.95.
The median age in the city was 36.7 years. 23.4% of the population were under 18, 9.3% between 18 and 24, 28.9% between 25 and 44, 26.5% between 45 and 64 and 12, 65 years or older. 47.7% of the population were men and 52.3% women.

As of the 2000 census , Milton had 5,795 residents, 2,390 households, and 1,563 families. The population density was 888.4 per km ². There were 2,503 housing units at an average density of 382 per km².
The population was 90.34% White , 1.14% African American , 1.17% Native American , 2.83% Asian , 0.28% Pacific Islander , 0.79% from other "races" and 3.45% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 3.55% of the population.
Of the 2,390 households, 31.2% had children under the age of 18, 49.7% were run by married couples living together and 11.3% by single mothers; 34.6% were non-families. 28% of the households were singles and 10.1% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.92.
The median age in the city was 38 years. 24.8% of the population were under 18, 7.3% between 18 and 24, 31.7% between 25 and 44, 22.3% between 45 and 64 and 13.9 65 years or older. There were 93.6 men for every 100 women, and 91.5 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
