Algona is a city ( City ) in King County in the State of Washington . It is located in the metropolitan area of ​​Seattle , surrounded by the suburbs of Auburn to the north and east, Pacific to the south and the unincorporated area of ​​King County to the west. At the 2010 United States Census , Algona had 3,014 residents. According to the Office of Financial Management's estimate , there were 3,075 inhabitants in 2013.

Because of the close proximity of Algona to the city of Pacific, the two communities are jointly referred to as Algona-Pacific or Algona / Pacific.

The community was originally called Algoma (a typo in the postal authority's reports that was never corrected).

2010 Census

According to the 2010 census , there were 3,014 inhabitants, 953 households and 722 families in Algona. The population density was 902.1 per km ². There were 1,018 housing units at a mean density of 304.7 per km².

The population was 67.1% white , 3.3% African-American , 1.7% American Indian , 11.7% Asian , 2% Pacific islander , and 7.5% other "Races" and 6.8% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 15.9% of the population.

Of the 953 households, 46.5% had children under the age of 18, 54.6% were run by married couples living together , 12.1% by single mothers and 9.1% by single fathers; 24.2% were non-families. 17% of households were singles and 3.8% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 3.15 and the average family size was 3.49.

The median age in the city was 33.1 years. 28.4% of the population were under 18, 10.4% between 18 and 24, 27.2% between 25 and 44, 27.3% between 45 and 64 and 6.5% 65 years or older. 50.8% of the population were men and 49.2% women.

Census 2000

As of the 2000 census , Algona had 2,460 residents, 845 households and 643 families. The population density was 703.6 per km ². There were 878 housing units at an average density of 251.1 per km².

The population consisted of 84.8% White , 1.67% African American , 1.87% Indian , 5.93% Asian , 0.12% Pacific Islander , 2.28% from other "races" and 3.33% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 5.98% of the population.

Of the 845 households, 43.3% had children under the age of 18, 56.4% were run by married couples living together, and 11.7% by single mothers; 23.8% were non-families. 18.6% of households were singles and 3.8% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.29.

The median age in the city was 34 years. 30.7% of the population were under 18, 6.8% between 18 and 24, 36.6% between 25 and 44, 19.6% between 45 and 64 and 6.3% 65 years or older. For every 100 women there were 107.6 men, for those over 18 years of age it was 104.8 men for every 100 women.

All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 50,833 and that of families was US $ 52,462. Men had a median income of US $ 40,450 compared to US $ 28,370 for women. The per capita income was US $ 19,734. About 3.2% of families and 4.5% of the total population lived below the poverty line ; this affected 3.7% of those under 18 and 10.4% of those over 65.

In the 2004 presidential election there were three constituencies in Algona . All three gave the Democrat John Kerry a relative majority of the vote, although only one (which covers the southern half of the city) had an absolute majority for him. Events

Every year Algona organizes a city running festival called "Algona Days". The event includes a mix of grocery vendors, a lawn mower race, smaller races, live music and other events.
