Federal Way is a city in King County in the US state of Washington . The city is located on the Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma and has 89,306 inhabitants (as of 2010). The city is considered a suburb of Seattle, although it is closer to Tacoma. The seat of the forestry group Weyerhaeuser is located in the city .

history

The city was first mentioned in 1929 . The name is derived from the location on US Highway 99 (now Washington State Highway 99 ). In 1931 , Federal Way High School opened in Federal Way , part of the Federal Way School District .
