Baring is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County , Washington state . As of the 2010 United States Census , Baring had 220 residents. The place is on US Highway 2 about 22 mi (35 km) west of Stevens Pass , on a very flat and straight 3 mi (4.8 km) long section of the highway, which is why the Baring Straight (a pun on Bering Strait [English for the Bering Strait between Alaska and Russia]) because Highway 2 otherwise leads hilly and winding over the mountains.

Demographics
As of the 2000 census , there were 233 residents, 105 households and 59 families in Baring. The population density was 53.5 per km ². There were 207 housing units at an average density of 47.6 per km².
The population was 90.56% white , 2.58% Indian , 0.86% Asian , 0.43% Pacific islander , and 5.58% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 2.15% of the population.
Of the 105 households, 22.9% had children under the age of 18, 49.5% were run by married couples living together , 4.8% by single mothers; 43.8% were non-families. 32.4% of the households were singles and 4.8% were single persons over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.81 people.
The median age in the city was 40 years. 19.7% of the population were under 18, 3% between 18 and 24, 37.8% between 25 and 44, 29.2% between 45 and 64 and 10.3 65 years or older. There were 121.9 men for every 100 women, and 122.6 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 40,875 and that of families was US $ 46,500. Men had a median income of US $ 37,125 compared to US $ 32,292 for women. The per capita income was US $ 22,571. Baring is a fortress of the Democratic Party . The CDP Baring is located in the Stevens constituency. In the 2004 presidential election in the Stevens constituency, John Kerry received 63% of the vote .
