Sammamish is located east of Seattle , right on Lake Sammamish , in King County , Washington , United States . The settlement was granted city status in 1999 . At the United States Census 2000 , Sammamish had 34,104 residents.

The town is on the shoreline and on the hills east of Lake Sammamish and the urban area includes other lakes, of which Beaver Lake and Pine Lake are the largest. To the north of Sammamish is Redmond and to the south is neighboring Issaquah .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of ​​47.4 km², of which 46.7 km² is land and 0.6 km² (= 1.37%) is water.

history

The plateau on which Sammamish lies was originally a non-incorporated part of King County. In 1991 a survey of citizens aimed at entering the neighboring city of Issaquah failed ; Likewise, a referendum in the following year failed to find a majority to make Sammamish an independent city. Growing frustration with the county government's decisions on urban development eventually led to the movement being re-launched, which in 1998 was ultimately voted in by voters. On August 31, 1999, Sammamish was officially incorporated as a City.

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Sammamish inhabited 34,104 people. The population density was 729.5 people per km ². There were 11,599 housing units at an average of 248.1 per km². The Sammamish population was 87.82% White , 0.85% Black or African American , 0.29% Native American , 7.89% Asian , 0.09% Pacific Islander , 0.60% said other races belong to and 2.46% named two or more races. 2.50% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Sammamish distributed to 11,131 households out of which 53.3% were living in children under the age of 18. 79.5% of households were married, 5.3% had a female head of household without a husband, and 13.3% were not families. 9.4% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 1.5% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was 3.29.

The urban population was divided into 33.4% minors, 4.8% 18–24 year olds, 33.2% 25–44 year olds, 24.6% 45–64 year olds and 4.0% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 women there were 101.7 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 98.5 men.

The median household income in Sammamish was 101,592 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 104,356 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 76,688 compared to $ 47,164 for women. The per capita income in Sammamish was $ 42,971. 2.0% of the population and 1.6% of families had an income below the poverty line , of which 1.7% of minors and 3.2% of the age group 65 and over were affected.
