NBA All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NBA Rookie Challenge (since 2012 Rising Stars Challenge ) takes place in the framework of the annual NBA All-Star Weekend . From 1994 to 1998 only players who were in their first NBA year (so-called rookies ) played against each other. From 2000 to 2011 it was the clash of the best rookies and sophomores . The sophomores won eight, the league newbies four times the duel. In 2012 , at the All-Star-Weekend in Orlando, a pool of ten rookies and ten sophomores was selected by the assistant coaches of the NBA clubs, from which the TNT analyst Charles Barkleyand Shaquille O'Neal put together two mixed teams. The new competition is called the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge. In 2014, the teams were composed of Chris Webber and Grant Hill . In 2015 a game between a selection of American players against a world selection was played for the first time. Both teams were put together from rookies and sophomores.
