Zachary "Zach" LaVine (born March 10, 1995 in Renton , Washington ) is an American basketball player who plays for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA .

Career

LaVine played one year for the UCLA Bruins at the University of California, Los Angeles . After college, he decided for the NBA and was selected in the NBA draft 2014 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 13th place and committed shortly thereafter. After injuring nominal point guard Ricky Rubio, LaVine moved into the starting line-up ahead of veteran Mo Williams . On November 28, 2014, he scored 28 points in the 120: 119 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers and distributed 5 assists, making him only the second teenager, after Kobe Bryant in 1997, who scored more than 25 points and 5 assists. He also managed a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists on December 6, 2014 , making him only the fourth teenager to do this.

At All Star Weekend 2015, 19-year-old LaVine won the slam dunk contest, making it the youngest winner since Kobe Bryant. LaVine finished his first NBA year with 10.1 points and 3.8 assists per game and was called up to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . At the NBA All-Star Weekend 2016, LaVine led the US selection to victory over the world selection in the rookie game and was named MVP with 30 points . A day later he defended his "Slam Dunk Champion" title in the final against Aaron Gordon .

LaVine finished his sophomore year slightly better with 14.0 points per game. In his third professional year with the Wolves, LaVine made a very strong start and averaged 18.9 points after 47 games. He tore a cruciate ligament in February 2017 and was out for the rest of the season.

As part of the 2017 NBA draft , LaVine was transferred to the Chicago Bulls for Jimmy Butler and the draft rights to Justin Patton along with Kris Dunn and the draft rights to Lauri Markkanen . On March 1, 2019, LaVine set a career record of 47 points in the Bulls' 168-161 win in a game that spanned four overtimes. On November 23, 2019, LaVine was able to convert 13 three-point throws . This was the second highest value in NBA history to date (after Klay Thompson with 14 converted threesomes on October 29, 2018), which had previously been achieved by Stephen Curry on November 7, 2016 .
