Randall Stout (born May 6, 1958 in Knoxville , Tennessee , † July 11, 2014 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American architect and university professor .

Life

Randall Stout was born to a high school teacher and a dairy wholesaler. He received his bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Tennessee in 1981 . This was followed by his master's degree from Rice University in Houston , Texas . His first job as an architect was in 1985 at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . From 1989 he worked for the star architect Frank Gehry for over seven years . He was involved in projects such as the design of the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein or the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. With Randall Stout Architects, Inc. he finally founded his own architecture office in Los Angeles in 1997.

In parallel to his work, Stout was also active academically. He worked as an architecture critic, gave lectures at specialist conferences and taught at various institutes. He taught at the E. Fay Jones Chair of Architecture at the University of Arkansas and at the AC Martin Chair in Architecture at the University of Southern California . Most recently he was Professor of Architecture at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas .

On July 11, 2014, Stout passed away at his Los Angeles home at the age of 56. After two and a half years of treatment, he succumbed to kidney cancer . He left his wife and three children together.
