The University of Arkansas (abbreviated UA or U of A ) is a state university in Fayetteville in the northwest of the US state Arkansas . With 27,194 students (2016), the university is the largest public university in Arkansas. It is the main location of the University of Arkansas system . The university is particularly known for its research and teaching in the fields of architecture, agriculture (especially poultry) and economics (Sam M. Walton College of Business).

history

The university was founded as Arkansas Industrial University in 1871 and took its current name in 1899. The UAF became the first state university in the southern states to accept an African-American student in 1948.

Sports

The UAF sports teams are the Razorbacks , also known as the Hogs . The football team plays at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium , which has a seating capacity of 76,000. The university is a member of the Southeastern Conference .
