The Southern Arkansas University (also SAU called) is a public university in Magnolia in the southwest of the US state of Arkansas . 3109 students are enrolled at the university.

history

The university was founded in 1909 as the Third District Agricultural School . In 1925 it was renamed Agricultural and Mechanical College, Third District and in 1951 Southern State College . It received its current name in 1976.

Sports

The SAU sports teams are the Muleriders . The university is a member of the Gulf South Conference.
