The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith ( UAFS ) is a state university in Fort Smith in the western US state of Arkansas . The university is the fifth largest college in Arkansas with 7,587 students . It is a location of the University of Arkansas system .

history

The university was founded as Fort Smith Junior College in 1928 , changed its name to Westark Community College in February 1972 , to Westark College in February 1998, and took its current name in January 2002.
