The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (also called UAMS ) is a state medical college in Little Rock , the capital of the US state Arkansas . 2320 students are enrolled at the university. It belongs to the University of Arkansas system . With 9,400 employees, it is one of the largest employers in Arkansas.

history

The university was founded in 1879 as a so-called medical school . In the 1950s it was renamed the University of Arkansas Medical Center (UAMC) . It received its current name in 1980.
