Medical University
A medical university or medical university is a specialized university whose research and teaching is limited to medical studies and related subjects of medicine . Unlike medical schools within larger universities, medical universities are independent. What both have in common, however, is that they can have their own university hospital attached.
In addition to the medical universities that specialize in human medicine, there are also universities of veterinary medicine such as the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover , the oldest independent veterinary educational institution in Germany.

United States
The first medical school established in what would become the United States' territory was the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1865 . Today there are about 179 medical schools across the country. In the university ranking, the medical schools of Harvard , Johns Hopkins and Stanford are currently rated highest due to their outstanding research .
Medical schools in the United States are so-called professional schools , which require a bachelor's degree to be attended. The doctoral degree is awarded within the framework of a professional doctorate , i. H. without writing a dissertation . Many applicants have a PreMed subject by the time they enter the Medical School, e.g. B. studied biology , but this is not required. In undergraduate studies , a specialized medicine in the United States is not offered.
