The Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences (abbreviated as KL) is an Austrian private university based in Krems an der Donau .

The KL's 24 university clinics are located at the Krems University Hospital (approx. 460 beds), the St. Pölten University Hospital (approx. 1140 beds) and the Tulln University Hospital (approx. 440 beds).

Fields of study

The medical course at KL consists of two courses, the bachelor's degree in health sciences and the master's degree in human medicine. In 2016, AQ Austria [Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria] accredited a further full-time course, the Bachelor course in Psychology. In 2018, the full-time master’s program in psychology was also accredited.

Health Sciences

The Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences is the first part of the Bologna-compliant medical degree and opens up access to new professional fields in the health sciences. The completion of the BA Health Sciences is the prerequisite for the subsequent master’s degree in human medicine at KL.

Human medicine

The master's degree in human medicine is the second part of the Bologna-compliant medical degree. It serves to provide scientific training for the medical profession as well as imparting the skills that are necessary for independent medical professional practice.

Bachelor of Psychology

The bachelor's program in Psychology combines psychological and psychosocial fields of application on the basis of science-based practice. Based on the imparted theoretical knowledge, psychological competencies and key qualifications for caring for people are developed that are relevant for later everyday professional life.

It is based on the Bologna model and meets the requirements of Section 7, Paragraph 1, Item 2 of the Austrian Psychologists Act 2013.

Master in Psychology

The master’s program in psychology builds on the bachelor’s program in psychology. It deepens the knowledge and skills in basic psychological research and the applications of psychology. By acquiring job-specific skills, students learn the professional application of psychological knowledge and methods in the investigation, treatment, interpretation, modification and prediction of the experience and behavior of people and their living conditions. The focus of the theoretical training is on clinical psychology as well as on industrial, organizational and business psychology.

The Master’s program in Psychology is based on the Bologna Model and corresponds to the Austrian Psychology Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 182/2013).
