The University Clinic Krems is a hospital run by the Lower Austrian State Clinic Holding at Mitterweg 10 in Krems . It has about 460 beds and, together with the University Medical Center St. Pölten (about 1,140 beds) and the University Hospital Tulln (about 440 beds), the University Hospital, founded in 2013, in Krems settled Karl Landsteiner Private University of Health Sciences .

history

The Krems hospital was opened in 1852 and a public hospital in 1856. Before that, it was located on Spitalgasse in the city center. But due to the rapid growth of the city and for hygienic reasons, it was rebuilt in the suburb of Hohenstein on the outskirts of the city at that time.

In 1955 a blood bank was set up in the hospital. In September 1982, the new building of the University Hospital has been opened as a main hospital, which the clinic, the care level reached two. On September 1, 1983, the Christophorus 2 rescue helicopter was permanently stationed in Krems, making it the second oldest location in Austria. In 1987 an underground hangar for the rescue helicopter was built right in front of the hospital. Due to the planned expansion of the university hospital and the associated space requirements, a new base was built for the rescue helicopter at Krems Airport in 2014 . However, the base moved to the Krems airfield in Gneixendorf the following year.

The legal entity of the Krems University Clinic is the Niederösterreichische Landeskliniken-Holding, a subsidiary of the Province of Lower Austria.

The management of the University Hospital Krems consists of the medical director Heinz Jünger, the nursing director Siegrun Karner and the commercial director Dr. Gerhard Knor together.
