The Catholic-Theological Private University Linz (Linz KU) is one of four in Linz located universities . Are her theological , art historical and philosophical studies operated.
history
Theology has been researched and taught at today's Catholic Private University Linz since 1672, making the KU the oldest academic educational and research institution in Linz. In 1978, in agreement with the Ministry of Science, it was elevated to the status of the theological faculty under papal law . Ten years later, a new building was added to the old building. On October 10, 2000, the “Catholic Theological University” was accredited as the first private university in Austria. From then on it was called the “Catholic Theological Private University Linz” (KTU Linz). In 2015 the name was changed to “Catholic Private University Linz” (KU Linz) in order to do justice to the expansion of the courses in philosophy and art studies.
With the newly founded “Faculty of Philosophy and Art History (FPhK)” in the 2015/16 academic year, which emerged from the previous “Institute for Art History and Philosophy ad instar facultatis (IKP)”, the Catholic Private University Linz expanded its range of courses . In the course of the expansion, new institutes were established and there is now the possibility in Linz to pursue the "study of art science and philosophy" in addition to theological studies.
The rector of the university has been Christoph Nobody since July 1, 2020 . His predecessors were Franz Gruber (2014–2020), Ewald Volgger (2010–2014), Michael Rosenberger (2007–2010) and Ilse Kögler .
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the beatification of Franz Jägerstätter , the Franz and Franziska Jägerstätter Institute was founded at the university on October 25, 2017 . The institute is to deal in depth with the biography of Franz and Franziska Jägerstätter, further focal points will be the research of as yet unknown witnesses of the resistance, peace work and the theological-ethical discussion about civil courage and decisions of conscience.

General
The KU Linz is financially supported by the Diocese of Linz. To ensure long-term quality in research and teaching, Bishop Maximilian Aichern set up the Episcopal Fund to promote the KU Linz.
The KU library is the third largest in Linz and contains a wide range of specialist literature, with the majority of the books belonging to the humanities .
In the theological-practical quarterly published since 1848 , the Linz philosophical-theological articles and numerous individual publications, the research activities of the teachers are made known beyond the borders of Austria.

Accreditation status
According to Austrian law, private universities must be reaccredited every six years. The Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria extended the accreditation by six years in 2015 (until October 2021).
