Stefan Kaineder (born January 22, 1985 in Linz ) is an Austrian politician . From October 2015 he was a member of the state parliament of the Greens in Upper Austria . From October 2019 to January 7, 2020 he was a member of the National Council . In addition, he has been deputy federal spokesman since February 2019 and state spokesman for the Greens in Upper Austria since April 2019 . Since January 30, 2020, he has been a regional councilor in the Stelzer regional government .

Life

Stefan Kaineder grew up in the Mühlviertel . He went to the Adalbert Stifter elementary school and graduated from the Petrinum in Linz . He then studied theology at the Catholic theological private university in Linz and worked in international development cooperation at the Welthaus Linz before entering politics. In 2009 he married his wife Julia and currently lives with her and his 3 children in Dietach near Steyr .

Professional and political career

Stefan Kaineder was politicized early on by his grandfather , who was mayor for the ÖVP . When he decided to go into politics, he became active with the Greens, because, according to him, they now represent Christian social values. He has been the district spokesman for the Green Steyr-Land since 2010 and, according to his own statements, is committed to a fair and sustainable society. In 2013 he was elected to the board of the Green Educational Workshop. Kaineder is a councilor in Dietach and has been a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament since October 23, 2015 . He deals with development aid , Europe , family policy , agriculture and social policy .

In November 2018 he was elected to the federal executive committee at the Federal Congress of the Greens. Since February 1, 2019, he has been Deputy Federal Spokesman for the Greens.

On April 6, 2019, he was elected as the successor to Maria Buchmayr as state spokesman for the Greens in Upper Austria , with Dagmar Engl and Severin Mayr becoming their deputies .

In the constituent meeting of the XXVII. Legislative period on October 23, 2019, he was sworn in as a member of the National Council. Johanna Bors took his place in the state parliament in January 2020 . On 7 January 2020, Provincial Councilor Rudi Anschober joined the Federal Government Short II as Minister of Health and Social Affairs . Kaineder was elected in the state parliament session on January 30, 2020 as his successor to the state council of the Stelzer state government . Clemens Stammler took over his national council mandate .
