Manfred Haimbuchner (born August 12, 1978 in Wels ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ), lawyer and currently deputy to the Upper Austrian governor in the Stelzer provincial government .

Life

Haimbuchner was born into a Sudeten German family as the son of the long-term mayor of Steinhaus , Lambert Haimbuchner . After attending the local elementary school, he attended the federal high school in Wels from 1989, which he completed in 1997 with the Matura . Haimbucher did his military service from 1997 to 1998 and from 1998 studied law at the Johannes Kepler University Linz . In 2006 he was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD. Haimbuchner is old man of the Corps Alemannia Vienna to Linz . Between 2003 and 2004 he completed his legal internship at the District Court and Regional Court of Wels and was a trainee lawyer at the Paul Fuchs law firm in Thalheim near Wels from 2004 to 2009 .

Haimbuchner has been married to his wife Annette since May 2016. From this marriage a son was born in 2018.

Political career

Haimbuchner joined the FPÖ local group in Steinhaus in 2000. In 2003 he was first a local councilor , then a parliamentary group chairman in the community and finally deputy to the district party chairman of the FPÖ Wels-Land . Haimbuchner has been district party chairman since 2005. On October 30, 2006, he moved to the National Council as a member of the National Council , where his focus was on judicial and constitutional policy, in addition to his functions as a spokesman for the Court of Auditors and Sales Representative . He was a member of the committee of inquiry into the procurement of combat aircraft, which met from November 2006 to July 2007.

Until he left the National Council in October 2009, Haimbuchner was a member of the parliamentary committees for justice, for matters relating to the Court of Auditors and for matters of the Constitutional Court, as well as in the building committee and in the agriculture and forestry committee. In 2009, Haimbucher was the FPÖ's top candidate for the 2009 state elections in Upper Austria.

From October 23, 2009 to October 23, 2015 Haimbuchner was regional councilor in the Pühringer IV cabinet . Its responsibilities are nature and landscape protection, housing subsidies and savings banks.

After the FPÖ had won second place in the 2015 state elections , he was elected Deputy Governor of the Pühringer V state government on October 23, 2015 . In the state government of Stelzer he is responsible for nature and landscape protection, housing subsidies, building law, families and savings banks.

Haimbuchner has been Deputy Federal Party Chairman of the FPÖ since 2011.

Political work

As the youth spokesman for the FPÖ, Haimbuchner demanded in 2008 that, in addition to better integration and training, tougher crackdowns were necessary in order to better combat juvenile delinquency.

The deputy editor-in-chief of Oberösterreichische Nachrichten , Wolfgang Braun, wrote in 2014 that Haimbuchner was trying to correct the FPÖ's image as a “right-wing protest party”. Haimbuchner tries to position himself as economically liberal. With a specially founded "Liberal Club" connections to companies are to be established, which was partially successful. Haimbuchner described the former German FDP boss Erich Mende as a political role model. According to Wolfgang Braun, Haimbuchner has a national-liberal attitude. He has problems with members of the FPÖ who position themselves on the far right. According to Braun, Haimbuchner was “never conspicuous” in this direction, although he had not yet managed to dispel all doubts. According to the homepage of the Upper Austrian Landtag, Haimbuchner names the writer and Freikorps - as well as Brigade Ehrhardt - member Ernst von Salomon as his favorite author .

In order to reduce the costs in social housing, Haimbuchner presented a “standard equipment catalog” in 2014 in his function as housing councilor, which came into force on January 1st, 2015 in Upper Austria. Since then, savings have been made on materials such as stainless steel, elevators are only built from three floors and nine apartments or simple plastic windows are installed instead of heat-insulating windows. While housing cooperative board member Roland Hattinger considered the catalog to be an “important tool for affordable housing”, several organizations on the platform “Sustainably affordable social housing in Upper Austria” criticized it as a step backwards. Haimbuchner acts as deputy chairman of the Upper Austrian Energy Saving Association, which promotes the efficient and environmentally friendly use of energy.

He was the deputy chairman of the Austrian national association of the Völkisch Witikobund , a Sudeten German expellee association .

In 2012, the Atterseekreis , a discussion group founded by liberals within the Freedom Party of Austria, was revived on the initiative of Haimbuchner in Nussdorf am Attersee.

On May 20, 2019, Haimbuchner received the Coronati Prize , the great fairness award of the Austrian construction industry, for its commitment to residential construction. He received a further honor on October 22nd from the Austrian Association of Non-Profit Building Associations-Revision Association. On this day he was awarded the great gold medal.

Controversy

In May 2016, in the course of the Austrian federal presidential election campaign, Haimbuchner called on those to whom Christian culture was as important as him to vote for the FPÖ, because the ÖVP and the official church “betrayed you for a long time”. For this statement, Haimbuchner was criticized by the Upper Austria Catholic Action .

In November 2016, Haimbuchner gave a speech on the occasion of an anniversary celebration of the FPÖ Mettmach , at which the first FPÖ federal party chairman and former Nazi politician Anton Reinthaller , who came from Mettmach, was remembered. Reinthaller, who was imprisoned for three years after 1945 for high treason , had gone a “political wrong track” “like millions of others”, according to Haimbuchner. After the war he wanted to participate in democracy again and leave the past behind. Haimbuchner was criticized for his participation in the celebration by the Greens and the SPÖ Upper Austria.

In 2016, Haimbuchner received the “ Black Globe Award ” from Global 2000 , Greenpeace , Climate Alliance and WWF , which honors “the most prominent climate change deniers and climate change inhibitors in Austria”. He acknowledged the award with the words that this was “recognition for politics with common sense”.

After the termination of a lecture on extremism at a school in Linz initiated by FPÖ officials, Haimbuchner set up an online reporting platform in spring 2017, where teachers could report violations of objectivity . According to Haimbuchner, it could not be the case that children of FPÖ functionaries come home from school with tears in their eyes because agitation against the FPÖ is on the agenda . The platform was rejected by the teachers' union as a call for veining and criticized by the Upper Austrian SPÖ and the Greens . The platform went offline in May 2017, and was finally removed in autumn 2018.

After the Mauthausen Committee Austria published a brochure in August 2017 in which dozens of right-wing extremist activities by FPÖ politicians are listed - Haimbuchner's memory of Reinthaller is also mentioned in it - Haimbuchner responded by stating that he did not believe in the Mauthausen Committee. The conflict between the FPÖ and Haimbuchner's with the MKÖ continued in 2018 when a decision not to allow FPÖ politicians to u. a. the annual memorial service organized by the MKÖ in the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial site .
