Markus Achleitner (born April 22, 1969 in Grieskirchen ) is an Austrian manager and politician ( ÖVP ). He was General Director of OÖ Thermenholding GmbH and has been a regional councilor in the Stelzer regional government since December 6, 2018 .

Life

After primary school in Aichkirchen and secondary music school in Lambach, Markus Achleitner attended the commercial academy in Wels . He did his military service with the Upper Austria Military Musicians. He then attended the College for Tourism Management at Schloss Kleßheim near Salzburg . In 1991 he became the hotel director of a four-star hotel in Pörtschach in Carinthia . After completing his training, a year as a cabaret artist followed with a few schoolmates. From 1994 he was busy opening a pub brewery in Wels.

In 1997 he took over the management of Eurotherme Bad Schallerbach , in 2006 he became managing director of the newly founded OÖ Thermenholding GmbH , consisting of Eurotherme Bad Schallerbach, Eurotherme Bad Hall and Eurotherme Bad Ischl . In 2010 he was appointed General Director of Eurothermen. From 2007 to 2018 he was a lecturer for tourism finance at the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI). In 2008 he became Vice President of the European Waterpark Association (EWA), and in 2017 he was elected President of the EWA. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Upper Austria Regional Tourism Council, since 2015 he has been deputy chairman of the hotel sector in the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce, and deputy chairman of the professional association of healthcare companies in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO).

On June 14, 2018 it was announced that Achleitner would become a state councilor in the Upper Austrian state government due to Michael Strugl's move to the board of directors of the Verbund AG electricity company . Achleitner was on 6 December 2018 sworn in and is responsible for the site resort with economic, scientific and research agendas. Strugl followed Christine Haberlander as Deputy Governor . Achleitner is a member of the ÖVP and is active in the economic association.

Thomas Prenneis succeeded him as General Director of Eurothermen Resorts on December 1, 2018. Achleitner was honored with its own milestone on the thermal baths promenade. In March 2019, he was elected to succeed Michael Strugl as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Energie AG Oberösterreich . As part of the coalition negotiations for the formation of a government in 2019 , Achleitner is negotiating in the main group climate protection, the environment, infrastructure and agriculture.
