Wolfgang Franz Klinger (born May 10, 1959 in Wels ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ), transport and construction company and innkeeper. Since May 23, 2019 he has been Provincial Councilor of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government .

Work and private life

Klinger attended elementary and secondary school in Gaspoltshofen from 1965 to 1973 and then from 1973 to 1978 the higher technical and commercial institute in Saalfelden. He did his military service in anti-aircraft battalions 4 and 3 in Hörsching. He runs a transport company and a restaurant in Gaspoltshofen. The Gasthaus Klinger has been family-owned for 115 years, and Klinger has also been running the family-owned transport company for 20 years.

Wolfgang Klinger is married and has two daughters (* 1982 and 1988) and a son (* 1991). He lives in Gaspoltshofen. In his youth he was Vice State Champion in Judo.

Political career

Klinger has been the local party chairman of the FPÖ Gastpoltshofen as well as a local council and parliamentary group chairman since 1991 . Since 1991 he has also been a member of the regional executive committee of the Ring of Freedom Economists (RFW). In 1997 Klinger was elected to the Gaspoltshofen municipal board, and in 2003 he became mayor. In 2004 he was also elected regional chairman of the RFW Upper Austria. Klinger has also been district party chairman of the FPÖ-Grieskirchen / Eferding since 2009 and was confirmed as mayor in 2009 with 65.9% in the first ballot. From October 23, 2009 Klinger was a member of the state parliament and area spokesman for business and municipalities. Klinger has several functions in the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce and the Federal Chamber of Commerce, in particular in the area of ​​transport and traffic and in the economic parliament.

In the Upper Austrian state parliament he was replaced by Sabine Binder at the beginning of July 2016 , as he switched to the National Council on June 29, 2016 as the successor to Heinz-Peter Hackl . On May 21, 2019, he was nominated as the successor to the resigned State Security Councilor Elmar Podgorschek . He was sworn in on May 23, 2019. He was replaced in the National Council by Roman Haider , whose vacant mandate was taken over by Thomas Dim .
