Michael Strugl (born August 28, 1963 in Steyr ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From April 6, 2017, he was Deputy Governor in the Stelzer provincial government , and from April 18, 2013, he was Upper Austrian Provincial Councilor . On December 5, 2018, he left the state government.

Life

Michael Strugl attended the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster , where he graduated in 1981, studied law at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and in 1983 became a member of the Catholic student association KaV Austro-Danubia Linz in the ÖCV . He also completed a master's degree at Toronto University of Economics in 2000 and 2001 . After training as a journalist at the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce, he was press officer for the Upper Austrian People's Party from 1987 to 1995. In 2013 he received his doctorate in economics in Linz. From December 2010 to April 2019 he was chairman of the Upper Austrian think tank he founded, ACADEMIA SUPERIOR - Society for Future Research .

In 1995 he became deputy state party secretary of the ÖVP Upper Austria. His areas of responsibility were marketing, organization, service, education and IT. From 1997 to 2001 he was a member of the Federal Council , in this function also chairing the foreign affairs committee.

In 2001 he was appointed state party secretary of the ÖVP Upper Austria. In the same year he took up his post as a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag .

In 2003 Strugl was elected club chairman of the ÖVP in the Upper Austrian state parliament. On January 12, 2009, he resigned from his position as club chairman, but remained state manager and state parliament member of the Upper Austrian People's Party until April 18, 2013.

On April 18, 2013 he became a member of the Upper Austrian provincial government under Governor Josef Pühringer and as a provincial councilor responsible for the areas of economy, work, sport, tourism, Europe, citizenships, elections, trade, spatial planning and regional development. In the state government of Pühringer V he gave up the area of ​​citizenships and has since been responsible for the areas of economy, work, research, science, energy, tourism, regional planning, state holding, Europe and sport.

On April 6, 2017, Michael Strugl was sworn in before the Upper Austrian Landtag as Deputy Governor of the Stelzer Provincial Government . In June 2018 it was announced that he would move to the board of directors of the electricity company Verbund AG on January 1, 2019 . Markus Achleitner succeeded him as regional councilor on December 6, 2018 , and Christine Haberlander was deputy governor . In March 2020, the Supervisory Board decided that Strugl should succeed Wolfgang Anzengruber as CEO of Verbund AG at the beginning of 2021 . In June 2020, Strugl was elected as the successor to Leonhard Schitter for a term of three years as President of the Austrian E-Business Association.
