A papal university is a Roman Catholic university established by and under the direct supervision of the Holy See . In the Roman Curia , the Congregation is responsible for Catholic Education . In Rome in particular , many religious orders have founded their own universities.

Only those Catholic or papal universities are listed in the list that are explicitly mentioned in the papal yearbook ( Annuario Pontificio ), i. H. are established and recognized under papal law. A list of all Catholic universities can be found under Catholic University .
