Education
The academic year lasts from September 1 to August 31 and is divided into winter and summer semesters . The semesters are divided into lecture time (approx. 13 weeks), examination time (approx. 6 weeks) and vacation. Each university decides on its own examination and lecture times in coordination with the respective faculty. The three-level system according to the Bologna classification applies nationwide : Bachelor's degree (3 - 4 years), Master's degree (usually 2 years further; in a few fields of study also as an undergraduate degree 5 - 6 years) and doctoral degree (min. 3 years). The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) has now been introduced at most universities .
