There are a total of 77 state-recognized universities in the country, 55 of which are state-run full universities , 3 state technical universities , 14 " non-state " (but state-recognized) universities, 7 universities under papal law, 2 so-called (state) foreign universities (see below) and 3 other specialized universities Higher education institutions.
