The Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca , or UNIMIB for short , is a state university founded in 1998 with headquarters in Milan and Monza in the Italian region of Lombardy .
The University of Milan-Bicocca has its origins in the division of the University of Milan , which was overcrowded with around 90,000 students in the 1990s. A large area in northern Milan, the Bicocca, was chosen as the location for the new university. The new campus from the 1980s is located on the former industrial area of Pirelli , which was planned by the architect Vittorio Gregotti as a university location as an urban complex, research laboratories and student dormitories. The university was officially founded on June 10, 1998.
Milan-Bicocca is a multidisciplinary university that offers a wide range of academic programs in different disciplines (dipartimenti) : business, computer science, statistics, law, education, sociology, medicine and surgery, mathematics, natural sciences, physics and astrophysics, chemistry, computer science , Biotechnology and psychology.
