Zipfelmacherei
With the mostly oversized reference to a Zipfe (l) macherei , residents of rural areas in Upper Bavaria indicate the birth of a male baby in their community. In other areas of Bavaria it is common to use the term rag- making in this context and to garnish the respective parental home with scraps of cloth. A disobedient boy is commonly referred to as a "rascal" in Bavaria. The custom is to be understood analogously to the references to a bixnaking , which are used to mark houses in which a female baby has been born.
The reduction to the primary sex organ of the newborn seems archaic and is also criticized by friends of tradition.
