Scuola superiore universitaria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scuola superiore universitaria (also Scuola universitaria superiore or Scuola di alta formazione ) is a general term in Italy for independent top universities and graduate schools as well as for non-independent academic institutions of universities that promote excellence. It is not mandatory to use this general name.

The oldest Italian university of this kind is the Scuola Normale Superiore, founded in Pisa in 1810 . A more systematic promotion of the elite by comparable institutions did not begin in Italy until the turn of the millennium.

overview

In principle, postgraduate studies are offered for particularly gifted students . In addition to their normal studies, selected students at state universities also receive an additional academic program and other services from their first year of study. Board and lodging are free, fees are waived or are reduced, and usually there is also a small financial grant. The few study places are awarded according to a special selection process. In the case of a parallel undergraduate degree , a high grade must be maintained, otherwise the additional study at the Scuola superiore ends .
