The University of Siena ( Italian : Università degli Studi di Siena , UNISI; Latin : Universitas Senarum ) in the city of Siena in Tuscany is one of the oldest universities in Italy . It was founded in the 13th century and is best known today for its law and medicine faculties. Due to the 20,000 students, Siena with a total of only about 50,000 inhabitants is very much shaped by its university.

The State University for Foreigners in Siena originally belonged to the University of Siena, but is now an independent university.

  • Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy
  • Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy in Arezzo
  • Faculty of Law
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
  • Faculty of Medicine and Surgery
  • Faculty of Pharmacy
  • Faculty of Political Science

In 2004 the university founded the Scuola superiore Santa Chiara to promote particularly talented students .
