Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy

The Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy (Italian: Pontificia facoltà teologica dell'Italia meridionale ) is a college of the Catholic Church in Naples , Italy .

It awards degrees to laypeople and clergy.

The faculty was established in 1969 according to the guidelines of the Second Vatican Council and the norms for planning faculties issued by the Congregation for Catholic Education. It emerged from the merger of two predecessor institutes, the Theological Faculty of the University of Naples and the Jesuit Theological Faculty of San Luigi. In the meantime, other theological educational institutions from southern Italy have been integrated, including a. the Theological Institute of Calabria in Catanzaro , the Theological Institute of Apulia in Molfetta and the Theological Institute of Basilicata in Potenza .

The Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy is divided into two sections, according to the two founding institutions, the “San Tommaso” section and the “San Luigi” section.

It is headed by Grand Chancellor Crescenzio Cardinal Sepe .
