The University of Enna , more detailed University of Kore Enna (UKE) ( Italian Università degli Studi di Enna “Kore” ; Latin Studiorum Universitas Hennae ) is a university in Enna in central Sicily .
It is the fourth in Sicily after the universities of Catania , Messina and Palermo and one of the few non-state universities in Italy.
The university emerged from an initiative of the Kore Foundation in collaboration with the Universities of Catania and Palermo, which from 1995 also held courses in Enna. On September 15, 2004, the University of Enna was established as an independent institution by a decree of the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research . The number of students rose from 140 students in the first year to 7,000.
It is named after the Greek goddess Kore , also known as Persephone , daughter of the fertility goddess Demeter (Latin Ceres ). The name was chosen because the central Sicilian Free Community Consortium Enna bears the nickname "Province of Ceres" (provincia di Cerere) due to its fertile soil and importance of agriculture .
The university has five faculties:
- Cultural assets (architecture and archeology)
- economy
- Law
- engineering
- Humanities
