The Pontifical University Antonianum ( Latin : Pontificia Universitas Antonianum , Italian : Pontificia Università Antonianum ) is a religious college of the Franciscans (OFM) in Rome (Rione Esquilino ).

The Antonianum was founded in 1887 by Bernardino Del Vago da Portogruaro , Franciscan General Minister from 1869 to 1889, as a religious college.
On November 20, 1890 was with inauguration by Pope Leo XIII. academic operations began as Collegium Sancti Antonii Patavini in Urbe . The name was on May 17, 1933 by decree of Pope Pius XI. changed to Athenaeum Antonianum de Urbe ; on June 14, 1938, the college received its status as a Pontifical College.
Pope John Paul II elevated the university to the Antonianum Pontifical University on January 11, 2005 .
In the building complex is the Basilica minor Sant'Antonio da Padova in Via Merulana as well as other institutions such as the International Marian Pontifical Academy , the Collegio Internazionale S. Antonio (CISA) and the Fraternità Gabriele Allegra .

Mainly members of the male orders of the Franciscans (OFM) , Capuchins and the Minorites as well as sisters of different women's orders study at the university ; the university is also open to laypeople.
The focus is on teaching in Catholic theology and philosophy as well as specializations in theology and spirituality, such as dogmatics , Mariology and spirituality .
