The International Marian Pontifical Academy ( Latin : Pontificia Academia Mariana Internationalis PAMI) is a Pontifical Academy based in the Vatican City for the coordination of scientists and students of Mariology .

history

The Academy was founded in July 1946 by the Order of the Minorites with the task of organizing scientific debates and conferences as well as taking care of the publication of the Bibliotheca Mariana . In December 1959, John XXIII. her permission to bear the title of Pontifical Academy .

tasks

The academy brings together a number of experts from the major Christian denominations ( Orthodox Christians, Protestants and Catholics) as well as Muslims . It coordinates the various national Mariological Societies and is supposed to exercise vigilance against any Marian excess or minimalism . Every four years it organizes the International Mariological Congress.

Members

The President and the Secretary are appointed by the Pope for five years. The full members are appointed for the same period.
