Wolfgang Beinert (theologian)

Wolfgang Beinert (* 4. March 1933 in Breslau ) is a German Catholic priest , retired university lecturer and publicist . As a professor of Catholic dogmatics , as a long-time companion of Joseph Ratzinger , as an ecumenist and as an observer and commentator on the perception of himself and others in the Catholic Church , Beinert is a valued discussion partner in public discourse beyond the internal church area.

Life

Beinert studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Bamberg and Rome , where he also received the sacrament of ordination in 1959 . In 1963 he was with an ecclesiological dissertation with the title To the third church attribute . The catholicity of the church in the understanding of Evangelical Lutheran and Roman Catholic theology of the present at the Pontifical Gregorian University for Dr. theol doctorate . He then continued his work in Tübingen and Regensburg and worked from 1963 to 1966 as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Bamberg and later in the Diocese of Regensburg . In 1972 he became professor for dogmatics at the Ruhr University in Bochum . During his time in Bochum, he regularly read mass in the Heimkehrer-Dankeskirche . From 1978 until his retirement in 1998 he was full professor for dogmatics and dogma history at the University of Regensburg . During this time he published the Lexicon of Catholic Dogmatics , which first appeared in 1987.

Wolfgang Beinert has lived in Pentling since 1978 , where he is also active in parish pastoral care.
