history

Maria Himmelfahrt church in Hohengebraching

Until the church is planted

Ceramics and bronze needles found in the Forstmühle suggest that the Pentlinger Land was inhabited as early as the Bronze Age. The place name Pentling (also Pentilingin, Pentilingen or Pentelingen) appears in several documents of the St. Emmeram monastery from the 12th and 13th centuries (first in 1187, to denote a field).

During the Thirty Years War , Pentling was almost completely destroyed during the fighting for Regensburg . In gratitude for the recovery of peace, a small chapel was built, which is still standing today. Until the secularization of 1803 Pentling remained in the property of the St. Emmeram monastery. The Hofmark was in the Bavarian regional court district of Kelheim. In 1818 the political municipality Pentling was created.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria, the municipalities of Großberg, Hohengebraching (with the territorial parts of the dissolved municipality of Neudorf which was incorporated on January 1, 1974), Pentling and Poign were merged to form the new enlarged municipality Pentling.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 4,858 to 6,137 by 1,279 inhabitants or by 26.3%.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of the municipality of Pentling
Blazon : "Under the crenellated shield head divided by silver and red, supported by a golden bar, a silver heraldic lily in black."

The coat of arms has been used since 1979.

Description of the coat of arms

The coat of arms reminds of the close connection between the municipality of Pentling and the Regensburg Benedictine monastery of St. Emmeram, which held local authority for a long time and was the most important landlord in the former municipalities of Großberg, Hohengebraching, Pentling and Poign, which have belonged to Pentling since 1978. As a heraldic symbol, the red battlements in the white field refer to the castle in Pentling, which - already destroyed - came to St. Emmeram in 1329. In the 18th century the abbots of the monastery had a small castle here. Red and white are the coat of arms colors of St. Emmeram. The golden bar stands for the Roman road from Augsburg to Regensburg, which led through the municipality of Pentling. The silver lily in black comes from the personal coat of arms of Abbot Godin of St. Emmeram, which is still preserved on a coat of arms stone in Pentling.
