Maurus Gandershofer

Maurus Gandershofer OSB, baptized Georg (born January 22, 1780 in Pentling near Regensburg ; † August 28, 1843 in Regensburg), until the secularization 1803 monk of the Benedictine Abbey of Metten , was a historian, librarian and employee of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

biography

After attending the monastery school of the Imperial Monastery of Sankt Emmeram in Regensburg, Maurus Gandershofer entered the Benedictine monastery in Metten in 1799 and was given the religious name Maurus. He received his theological training in home studies at the monastery. After secularization, he was first a school inspector in Straubing before studying philosophy at the Bavarian State University, which was moved from Ingolstadt to Landshut , from 1809 to 1810. He was then custodian of the university library in Landshut and, from 1814, of the royal court library in Munich. On the recommendation of the academy secretary Lorenz von Westenrieder (historical class), Maurus Gandershofer became an employee of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich in 1828. In 1832 he returned to Regensburg, where, as a member and librarian of the historical association for the Regenkreis, he wrote numerous treatises on the history of the place and the order.
