history
Until the 19th century
At least since 5000 BC People live in the municipality. This is proven by the finds of well-preserved, ornate Stone Age vessels in Obertraubling and an undamaged, strong stone ax in Piesenkofen. From around 1800 BC Chr. (Tumulus or Bronze Age) stool graves are preserved in Niedertraubling. A Roman farm already existed in Niedertraubling in the 3rd century AD.
During the term of office of Bishop Baturich (817–847) there was a notarized exchange of land between the bishop and the noble Maurentius and thus Obertraubling was first mentioned in a document. The name goes back to the noble family of the "Traublinger", who exercised the manorial rule in the 11th century alongside the "Gebelkofener'n". Later the "Weichser" and the "Nothaft", the "Auer" and the " Lerchenfelder " were the landlords. There were moated castles in Niedertraubling and Gebelkofen . Traubling Castle was stormed in 1340 and besieged in 1492 in the Lion War . In the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) Obertraubling and Gebelkofen were badly damaged. Many farms went up in flames, the plague sealed the terrible war misery. In the Napoleonic period from 1799 to 1815, the population was heavily burdened by the passage of troops and billeting. In 1842 the so-called Walhallastraße was built to the neighboring community of Barbing . In 1859 the first train drove from Regensburg to Munich and stopped at the newly built Obertraubling station. In 1873 the Obertraubling volunteer fire brigade was founded.
20th century
In 1937 a military airfield was built in the northeast of Obertraubling, on what is now the city of Neutraubling , and an air base company was stationed in autumn 1938. At the end of 1940, another Messerschmitt GmbH production facility and a prisoner of war camp, the so-called Russian camp for around 2,750 forced laborers, were built on the site . From February 20 to April 15, 1945, the Obertraubling subcamp was located at the Messerschmitt factory .
After 1945, businesses began to settle here. In 1977 the community library was opened. The Regensburg BMW plant was located in the immediate vicinity in the 1980s .
Incorporations
On January 1, 1971, the previously independent community of Niedertraubling was incorporated. Gebelkofen and Oberhinkofen followed on January 1, 1972 . Parts of the dissolved Neudorf community were added on January 1, 1974.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018, the community grew from 5,242 to 8,406 by 3,164 inhabitants or 60.4%.

Buildings
- Parish church of St. Georg in Obertraubling : There was probably already a Romanesque and later a Gothic predecessor church. In 1759 the foundation stone for a baroque church was laid. After it became increasingly dilapidated and too small despite repairs at the end of the 19th century, demolition began on April 4, 1907. After only one year, the new church , built according to plans by Johann Baptist Schott from Munich, could already be assigned on July 5, 1908. Some of the furnishings were taken over from the old church. The neo-baroque building also has classical and art nouveau elements . The tower with a mighty helmet and onion is 56 meters high.
Built by the Traubling family, it was first mentioned in 1343, demolished in 1852, and no longer exists today except for the remains of the former pond house
Four-wing building complex, privately owned, built by Herr von Gebelkofen, first mentioned in 1200, then owned by the Lerchenfelder, rebuilt in 1750 after being destroyed in the 17th century
Some of the building fabric dates from the 12th or 13th century. The church was probably built by the noble family of Pysenchovens . The high altar in rococo style has an altar sheet by Martin Speer (1751).
- St. Petrus in Niedertraubling:
The church from the 17th century has a late Gothic terracotta figure of the Pietà around 1470. The tower dates from 1533. The high altar by Paul Dilger (1720) was acquired in 1885 by the Köfering parish .
- St. Michael in Oberhinkofen:
The church is first mentioned in 1508. The oldest part of today's church dates from the late 17th century. In 1900 the 32 meter high tower was given a pointed helmet instead of the baroque onion dome.
The Wielandhof was mentioned in a document as early as 1294 as one of the four Urhöfe Obertraubling. The farm stood next to the parish church of St. Georg until it was demolished in 2013.
- St. Johannes in Gebelkofen:
Hall building with retracted choir, two-storey sacristy with hipped roof and gable tower, 1792 with elevation of the essentially Romanesque tower; with equipment; Cemetery wall, 18./19. Century, with embedded tombstones.
