Gebelkofen

Gebelkofen is part of the municipality of Obertraubling in the Regensburg district in Bavaria with 746 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).

history

Gebelkofen was first mentioned in 1212. In 1608 the village was detached from the parish of Obertraubling and assigned as a branch of the parish of Wolkering . In the Thirty Years' War Gebelkofen was heavily damaged.

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Gebelkofen was incorporated into Obertraubling.

Buildings

  • Gebelkofen moated castle : The moated castle with four wings was built by the gentlemen of Gebelkofen. The castle was first mentioned in 1200. Later it came into the possession of the Lerchenfelder . The castle was destroyed in the 17th century and rebuilt in 1750. The castle was renovated in the 1990s.

Gebelkofen volunteer fire department

The Gebelkofen volunteer fire brigade is responsible for defensive fire protection and general help in the area and beyond. It was founded in 1865, making it the third oldest of the 176 fire departments in the Regensburg district. It was founded by 16 men as one of the first in what was then the Royal District Office of Regensburg. Today the fire brigade is trained and takes part in international and national competitions.
