Catholic Parish Church of the Assumption

history

Shortly after 800 the village was first mentioned in a document. The original cluster village by the church was later expanded to include a street village north of the Poignbach. The village was a long way from thoroughfare. The most important connection was the so-called "Stadtweg" via Oberhinkofen to Regensburg . In 1908 the connecting road to Gebelkofen and Poign was expanded and paved in the mid-1950s. In the mid-1950s, the communal routes to Thalmassing and Weillohe were also expanded.

Nothing is known about the original church in the parish of Wolkering. The old rectory was demolished in 1979. The baroque church of the Assumption dates from 1746.

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Wolkering merged with Thalmassing, Luckenpaint, Sanding (until 1875 Obersanding) and Weillohe to form a new municipality of Thalmassing.

Festival of 100 beers

history

The festival arose from an idea and on the initiative of the master car mechanic Johann "Hans" Treintl (1954-2016), who had started to make "footballs" from crown corks on the occasion of the 2006 soccer world championship and then to the surrounding breweries to exchange for beer. The proceeds from the sale of the beer at various world championship parties and a village festival were able to finance part of the new construction costs for the Bolzplate in Wolkering.

This success caused Hans Treintl to worry in 2007 whether this campaign could also be implemented on a larger scale. In fact, the breweries in Bavaria asked to help by agreeing to donate beer: the idea for the "Festival of 100 beers" was born. Treintl personally collected the beer crates provided by the breweries from the breweries and was supported in the implementation of the festival by volunteers.

After the death of Hans Treintl, the association Dorfgemeinschaft Wolkering und Umgebung, founded in October 2015, took over the organization of the festival. The number of members of this association is only around 150 people.

"Hans Treintl's idea deserves to be continued and I think the path we have taken with the establishment of the association is excellent. [...] The" Festival of 100 Beers "shines positively far beyond the municipality's borders."

facts and figures
