Carl Hurtzig

Wilhelm Daniel Carl Hurtzig , (born April 8, 1861 in Horst near Twistringen , † April 20, 1936 in Bremen - Huchting ) was a German worker, politician ( SPD ) and mayor of Huchting.

biography

Hurtzig was a worker. From 1894 he lived in Huchting on Kirchhuchtinger Landstrasse and Ebereschenstrasse (today Kladdinger Strasse). He joined the SPD early on. On October 3, 1919 he was elected in the first free election, without the 8-class suffrage that was common in Bremen until 1918, as the head of the then independent Bremen rural community Huchting and worked as mayor and registrar until 1933. In 1924 he initiated the founding of the Huchting building association , which built single and semi-detached houses in a cooperative and with self-help. The National Socialists deposed and persecuted him on March 23, 1933.

Hurtzig was married and had twelve children.

Honors

  • In 1961, in Bremen-Mittelhuchting, Carl-Hurtzig-Strasse was named after him.
