history
For the first time the name Sanding is mentioned as Samotinga (probably derived from a man named Samout) around 883/887 in a register of the diocese of Regensburg . The separate names of Obersenting and Untersenting were first mentioned in a document around 1350 . Until then, only senting, by which today's Untersanding was meant, was spoken of.
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Sanding (until 1875 Obersanding) joined Luckenpaint, Thalmassing, Weillohe and Wolkering voluntarily to form a new municipality of Thalmassing.
