history

Until the church is planted

In the year 901 the name Tegernheim was first mentioned in a document. Viticulture is documented from 1208. A Hofmark Tegernheim is mentioned for the first time in 1381 . In 1634, on the occasion of the siege of Regensburg by the Swedes, the place became the headquarters of the Bavarian Elector Maximilian I. In 1729, 1789, 1880, 1909 and lastly in 1954 the place was hit by floods. On October 18, 1830, on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the nearby Walhalla, King Ludwig I docked with a ship at Tegernheim and crossed the town in a carriage.

On the basis of the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818, the Bavarian rural communities were granted independence for the first time in their history. In 1818 Tegernheim became an independent municipality. At the head of the community was a community leader (mayor) who presided over the community committee (community council). The community leader and the community representatives (community councils) were determined every three years by indirect election (electoral system).

19th and 20th centuries

In 1869 the municipal edict of 1818 was replaced by the Bavarian municipal code. An article in the municipal code opened up the possibility that several municipalities could join together to form a mayor's office (administrative community). Tegernheim was supposed to form a mayor's office with the rural communities of Weichs and Schwabelweis under the leadership of Weichs. The people of Tegernheim called a community assembly (citizens' assembly), which unanimously rejected a mayor's office under the leadership of Weichs. Therefore Tegernheim became its own mayor's office. At the head of the community was a mayor who headed the community committee (council). The mayor and the municipal representatives (municipal councilors) were now elected directly by the citizens every six years.

From 1917 on, the city of Regensburg planned to incorporate the surrounding communities, including Tegernheim. A citizens' meeting was to take place in Tegernheim in January 1923, at which the citizens were to express their opinion. Unfortunately there are no minutes of the meeting. The fact is that in 1924 the communities Weichs and Schwabelweis came to Regensburg, while Tegernheim remained independent.

In 1939, Regensburg's Lord Mayor Otto Schottenheim urged Tegernheim to be incorporated quickly. On August 30, 1939, the Reich Ministry of the Interior issued a general order that all work on incorporations be stopped. Two days later the Second World War began. The beginning of the war had prevented the incorporation.

On December 9, 1944, some houses in Tegernheim were destroyed or badly damaged by an Allied air raid. Seven people were killed. The attack was aimed at the nearby Süddeutsche Holzverzuckerungswerk AG.

Incorporation

From 1972 to 1978 Tegernheim was to be incorporated into the city of Regensburg. The Regensburg District Administrator Leonhard Deininger, who lived in Tegernheim, prevented the incorporation. Tegernheim is an independent municipality to this day.
