The community is located between Pfatter and Sünching in the northwestern Gäuboden .

history

prehistory

In 1995 a double circular moat was discovered in Riekofen , which is attributed to the Pollingen culture . Riekofen is an important place where artifacts from prehistory were found. During an excavation for settlement remains from the 15th century near Riekofen in March 2020, archaeologists found a 2.5 m long tusk of a mammoth that lived there around 20,000 years ago.

Until the 19th century

Riekofen was first mentioned in a document in 878. The name Taimering was first mentioned in the 14th century, although the village is much older. In 1858 Taimering got a rail connection through the construction of the Regensburg - Straubing line, but the stop was discontinued in 1988. Riekofen Castle was demolished in 1870 .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Ehring was incorporated. On January 1, 1978 Taimering was added.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 772 to 787 by 15 inhabitants or 1.9%.

Municipal council

The municipal council consists of eight councilors and the first mayor. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, 469 of the 658 residents eligible to vote in the municipality of Riekofen exercised their right to vote, bringing the turnout to 71.28 percent.

Johann Schiller (Free Voters) has been the first mayor since May 1, 2014. In the local election on March 15, 2020, he was re-elected with 95.84% of the vote.
