history
Until the beginning of the 20th century
Finds from the Bronze Age prove an early settlement of the area around Beratzhausen, Mausheim and Rechberg. The first documentary mention was made in 866 in an exchange document between the "nobilis fidelis regis" Adalpertus and the bishop of Regensburg . In the 10th century the bishops of Regensburg owned a court in Beratzhausen, which was on the long-distance trade route Frankfurt-Würzburg-Fürth-Regensburg. In 1024 and 1025 King Konrad II registered in Beratzhausen; it is believed that there was a royal court. From the 13th century to the beginning of the 16th century, the rule changed regularly, sometimes through war, sometimes through sales. In 1530 the doctor Paracelsus settled in Beratzhausen and wrote two books.
In the following years the market rights were confirmed again and the town hall was built in 1574. In the Thirty Years' War Beratzhausen was burned and looted. In 1777 Beratzhausen became Bavarian . In 1845 the pilgrimage church Maria-Hilf, built in 1735, burned down and was then rebuilt. The railway line between Nuremberg and Regensburg was built in 1870 and opened in 1874. Beratzhausen has been electrified since 1901.

Incorporations
On January 1, 1972, the municipalities of Mausheim and Rechberg were incorporated as part of the municipal reform. On January 1, 1978 Schwarzenthonhausen and Oberpfraundorf (until 1933 Pfraundorf ) were incorporated. Small parts of the dissolved communities of Haag and Laufenthal , each with around 20 inhabitants at that time, were added on May 1, 1978. In this form, the area of the municipality roughly corresponds to that of the Ehrenfels rule in the 14th century.
Population development
There was a significant jump in the population after the end of the Second World War , which almost doubled due to the influx of East and Sudeten German expellees. Currently 3652 of the 5621 inhabitants live in the center, the rest in the surrounding parts of the municipality. The largest part of the municipality is Unterpfraundorf with 419 inhabitants (as of 2007)
Between 1987 and the end of 1996 the market grew from 5,117 to 5,498 inhabitants, or by 7.4 percent. The population has been moving sideways since 1996.
religion
There are eleven Roman Catholic churches and the Protestant Church of the Redeemer, built in 1970/71, in the municipality . There are also a number of small chapels. The pilgrimage church Maria-Hilf is well-known , to which a way of the cross with 14 small representations leads up from the valley.
Between 1970 and 2017 the evangelical community shrank from 800 to 371 believers.

Brenntenberg wind farm
The “Brenntenberg I” wind farm was built in 2011 near Rechberg on the A3 with three Enercon E-101 wind turbines and went online in 2012. The turbines are each 170 meters high and the rotors have a diameter of 101 meters. The wind farm is the first in the region. It was built by the Regensburger Ostwindgruppe and then handed over to the technical works Schussental, an energy supplier in Baden-Württemberg. The plants invested 15 million euros in the project. Each of the wind turbines has an output of three megawatts. A 140.5-meter-high mast for measuring wind collected data on whether and to what extent the wind was sufficient for such a park. According to the Ostwindgruppe, the wind farm can supply 6,000 households and save around 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The “Brenntenberg II” wind farm was built north of Pfraundorf in 2015 and went into trial operation in October 2015. It consists of two wind turbines, also of the Enercon E 101 type, with an output of three MW each. According to the operator, the system can supply 5,000 households with electricity and save around 13,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
