The Neumarkt (Oberpfalz) station provided by DB Station & Service with the station category 3 is classified, is the oldest and most important railway station in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

Location and rail connection

The station is south of the old town at the end of Bahnhofstrasse. The station building is on the northeast side of the Nuremberg – Regensburg railway line . Platform 1 is directly adjacent to the station building , followed by platforms 2/4 and 5. This is followed by several shunting and stabling tracks.

The Neumarkt – Dietfurt line branches off south of the station in the direction of Greißelbach. It still serves as a service track for Max Bögl GmbH in Sengenthal and the Pfleiderer company near the train station, as well as a siding for individual trains. A connection to the Dehn and Sons company on Hans-Dehn-Straße branches off from it, which is no longer used today .

Neumarkt train station is served by DB Regio Bayern and agilis in regional and S-Bahn traffic. Since the timetable change to the 2019/2020 winter timetable, long-distance trains no longer stop.

The bus station is now located on the site of the former freight station and is served by all lines of the Neumarkt city bus as well as numerous lines of the OVF and RBO . From here there are connections to almost all parts of the city and to all communities in the district , as well as to Amberg and the Allersberg and Kinding train stations . There is also a taxi waiting point.

As a stopping point in regional and long-distance traffic, the station has an extensive range of services. The German Railway operates a tourist center here sits next to a bakery with street cafe and kiosk, and a newsagents on site.

Platforms 1 and 5 as well as the bus station are equipped with digital train destination displays ; the display on platform 2/4 was removed during the renovation in 2010 and has not yet been reinstalled. Another dynamic display of the current journey times is installed in the station concourse. All platforms can be reached by elevator.

There is a public toilet in the bus station. In the immediate vicinity of the train station there are parking spaces for over 400 bicycles and around 60 cars. In the Ringstrasse multi-storey car park, about 600 meters away, discounted long-term parking spaces can be rented for customers of the VGN and RVV.

The station building was completed on December 1, 1871 with the opening of the Nuremberg – Neumarkt railway line. In 1873 the line was extended to Regensburg. From June 1, 1888, the Sulztalbahn trains in the direction of Beilngries and Freystadt also ran from here. In addition to the station building for passenger traffic, a freight station was also built , through which goods from local companies in particular were handled.

On April 22, 1945, the station was almost completely destroyed in an air raid by the US Air Force . Numerous people, including refugees in a train parked in the station, were killed here.

After the end of the war, the station was rebuilt and expanded, and track 3 was also removed in the 1970s and the platform for tracks 2 and 4 was built there.

After passenger traffic on the Sulztalbahn ceased on September 25, 1987, the station lost its function as a transfer station to the Altmühltal. Shortly afterwards, the neighboring freight yard was also shut down.

In 1995, a separate platform was built for track 5, which was also equipped with a lift for disabled people from the start.

The former freight yard was demolished in 1996/1997, and today's bus station was built in its place. In the course of the construction work, the station building was completely renovated and the station square in front of the building was redesigned. Digital train destination displays were installed on the platforms and a "TrainingPoint" was set up in the station hall for Deutsche Bahn trainees , which existed until 2007.

For the Nuremberg – Neumarkt S-Bahn , which started operating in December 2010, the station has been redesigned since autumn 2008: Platform 2/4 was extensively renovated and brought to a height of 76 cm, the platform roof was renewed and extended. An elevator was installed in spring 2011 to enable barrier-free access. In addition, some modifications were made in the track field . The bridge over Freystädter Straße to the north-west of the train station was extended to accommodate a third track towards Nuremberg.
